Awesome U of T Parkour

Hello Everyone!  Sweet parkour day and I attempt to get a little fancy with the editing :)
Enjoy!

Awesome U of T Parkour

Jonny and I go out for some pk around the University of Toronto campus.  We had a great time exploring and discovering lots of really good training areas.  I love that if you find an area that doesn't seem great for parkour, but you stay there long enough you'll eventually find some awesome ways to train there.  As long as you get creative any space can be a great place to move and flip!  Because we had such a great day I wanted the video to be a little nicer so I spent some time learning about color correction and frame blending techniques.  This is my first attempt to give a video some style so it probably looks pretty amateur but it was fun trying to figure that stuff out.  Just another way to express myself!!  :)

Amazing Quote of the Day
I sometimes feel like an alien creature
for which there is no earthly explanation
Sure I have human form
walking erect and opposing digits,
but my mind is upside down.
I feel like a run-on sentence
in a punctuation crazy world.
And I see the world around me
like a mad collective dream.
An endless stream of people
move like ants from the freeway
cell phones, pc's, and digital displays
"In Money We Trust,"
we'll find happiness
the prevailing attitude;
like a genetically modified irradiated Big Mac
is somehow symbolic of food.
Morality is legislated
prisons over-populated
religion is incorporated
the profit-motive has permeated all activity
we pay our government to let us park on the street
And war is the biggest money-maker of all
we all know missile envy only comes from being small.
Politicians and prostitutes
are comfortable together
I wonder if they talk about the strange change in the weather.
This government was founded by, of, and for the people
but everybody feels it
like a giant open sore
they don't represent us anymore
And blaming the President for the country's woes
is like yelling at a puppet
for the way it sings
Who's the man behind the curtain pulling the strings?
A billion people sitting watching their TV
in the room that they call living
but as for me
I see living as loving
and since there is no loving room
I sit on the grass under a tree
dreaming of the way things used to be
Pre-Industrial Revolution
which of course is before the rivers and oceans,
and skies were polluted
before Parkinson's, and mad cows
and all the convoluted cacophony of bad ideas
like skyscrapers, and tree paper, and earth rapers
like Monsanto and Dupont had their way
as they continue to today.
This was Pre-us
back when the buffalo roamed
and the Indian's home
was the forest, and God was nature
and heaven was here and now
Can you imagine clean water, food, and air
living in community with animals and people who care?
Do you dare to feel responsible for every dollar you lay down
are you going to make the rich man richer
or are you going to stand your ground
You say you want a revolution
a communal evolution
to be a part of the solution
maybe I'll be seeing you around

Triple Discipline

Hello All!  Trained three disciplines today, and had a great time doing all of them!
Enjoy!

Triple Discipline

Martyr and Eric start off by both doing their best Mike Tyson impression.  Not quite sure who has the better one!  Then Eli led us through a new series of boxing drills where we weren't hitting pads but instead we had to parry/block/dodge the punches.  A fun challenge and again something Eli looks much more comfortable doing than me!  After we had a fairly low key tricking session.  I haven't been feeling too into tricking recently and I think my body is recognizing that because my muscles did not feel like going hard on the tricks today.  Later that day I went to Scarborough Gym Elites and trained some parkour moves.  I worked on what I think are called plyometric jumps (the one foot jumps from beam to beam).  I finished up working on my fly-aways and landed a double full fly-away for the first time!  Yay!!

Waterloo Parkour

Hello Everyone!  I had a fun parkour day on Friday and then a great weekend so I thought I would share an idea I had.
Enjoy!

Waterloo Parkour

Double parkour training day today!  Started off early in the morning with Dylan hitting up that big rock we found the other week.  It was fun as we were forced to get a little creative so we didn't just repeat the things we did last time.  We were joined by Eli very briefly in the park where I had my huge bail.  He quickly showed me up doing the kong that I fell on, as I knew he would.  Why does he have to be so good at things?!  Later after 4 hours of driving  in brutal traffic my legs HAD to jump so I went to a new location in Waterloo, Ont.  I had a great time there as initially I couldn't see much to do but after hanging around I found some fun obstacles.  Also there were some jumps that scared me when I first checked them out but after psyching myself up I was able to do them!  It's always great to conquer some fears in a parkour session!

Interesting Thought of the Day!
If we didn't have supermarkets, we wouldn't have people damaging the environment.

Awesome Group Session 2

Hello All!  Since I am only editing one video per training session I now have more time for each post.  This means I will start experimenting with editing techniques and posting other interesting things, not just videos of flips.
Enjoy!

Awesome Group Session 2

Jonny and Carl duke it out capoeira styles again.  I thought they were good last time, but this time they kill it even more!  I swear they must be practicing in secret or something because last time they weren't as good.  After Jonny does a cool combo, which I pick up on, then Dylan and soon the whole team is doing their own variation of Jonny's initial combo (back sweep - master scoot - flash).  Then we all do a bunch of random tricks and finally I work on cork to cork, one hand handstand and wall side flips.  Excellent day!!  Oh and I tried experimenting with the Crop Effect for this video.  It looks fairly lame but it is just the start of my experimenting with editing techniques!

Crazy Science Fact of the Day!
The asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs 65 millions years ago also flung billions of tons of "life bearing" rocks to other potentially life-bearing planets in our solar system and beyond!  Whoa!!!

Month in Review: March

Hello Everyone!  March is over, and with its end comes my second month in review.  A brief summary: I love parkour!  Plus the last video from footage I have been storing.  I'm finally caught up to the present date!
Enjoy!

March

The start of a philosophical exploration of parkour?  Perhaps!  Reply to me and well see what happens!

Lots of Noise

Eric brought in some new music today which did a good job of pumping us up for training, but sounds kind of crazy when cut up for these purposes :P  Anyway, my friend Taylor gave me some very helpful pointers about top rock the other day and so I feel like my breakdancing looks an extremely tiny degree better.  I still have to practice what he showed me and then improve on that like a thousand times before I think I will look good.  But either way it's progress!  The guys were throwing down lots of flips today but my legs didn't feel like jumping so I left them to the acro and I stuck with the breaking.  I think I can definitely see some improvements on my windmills in this!  I am finally starting to feel like I sort of know what I'm doing in that move!   Plus Eric lands a crazy move that I forgot the name of! 540 twist?  California Roll?   Something!  He jumps and twists a lot and it looks cool!   Good job Eric!!

Manliness SPECIAL!

Hello World!  Oh my goodness, the second ever Flipping Out SPECIAL!!  This one is full of equal parts manliness and hilarity!  Plus a training session where we each express a bit of our creative side!
Enjoy!

HULK SMASH!

Ohhhh shoot son!  Second ever Flipping Out SPECIAL!!  What started out as a normal day of training soon turned into one of the funniest times I've ever had with the team!  There was blood, tears, and huge fluctuations in hormone levels.  That's all that has to be said, but just a warning to all the ladies out there: if your in a relationship maybe you shouldn't watch this, afterwards you may find yourself with an unyielding and insatiable attraction to a 2X member.

Creative Combos

Training started off a little slow today, our bodies and spirits were lagging behind our scheduled start time.  Except for Martyr, he somehow always has tons of energy at the beginning of training.  Well Dylan, Eric and I started out slow, but eventually we got into the swing of things by expressing ourselves a little bit.  Everyone was doing some cool, new combos as a way to get started.  Watching this I can see a lot of Dylan, Eric and Eli in the moves they do, I wonder what you guys can learn about us from watching how we move?

Parkour at Brickworks

Hello World!  One of my favourite video I have made so far!  Matches one of my favourite days of the year!  Awesome day parkouring at Brickworks and a rewarding bouldering day!
Enjoy!

Parkour at Brickworks

Wow I LOVE this heat wave!!  30 degress in Toronto in March!  That's unheard of!!  With weather like that I just had to go out and enjoy one of the few places of natural beauty in the city of Toronto.  Evergreen Brickworks was basically where I fell in love with parkour last year.  We had so many great days there expressing ourselves through movement, hanging out with friends and connecting with nature.  How could you not fall in love with that sport and that place?!  Well we got an early start at it this year and it was a great day!  Dylan and I started with some simple, fun pair stuff and then after Dylan left Yung and I were shooting a video to promote this sweet new iPhone app.  I love the sun!!!  Great day!!

Solo Bouldering

Went to the climbing gym by myself and had a pretty good session.  I find I can train solo quite effectively, I can be fairly dedicated/regimented if I want and pulled I that off fairly well here.  I had quite a few tries on two very challenging V4's at first.  They are a little beyond my level at this point but I'm hoping if I keep trying them I will get them eventually.  Then I made a lot of attempts at a problem that was probably somewhere between V3 and 4.  I only tried it so many times because I knew I could get it... and I did!  I love getting a run at the end of a long, hard day!

Carl's Magical Backyard

Hello Everyone!  This is the first video showing you what summer days in Carl's awesome backyard are like!  Plus as Dylan is simply trying to clean up the floor in RMA, Eli instigates a massive and brutal wrestling battle.  What a bully!
Enjoy!

Carl's Magical Backyard

This is your first introduction to the wonderful world that is Carl's backyard!  Many a summer day were spent here last year and thanks to this awesome heat wave we are getting an early crack at doing the same this year!  Carl built a jump/ramp and dug a sand pit for landings late last year and this was my first chance using it.  It is awesome!  It gets you tons of height and it's a lot more sturdy than it looks.  Hopefully we can build more things this year and make his backyard into a training paradise!  The other guys weren't feeling like going hard of the jump like I was but it was still a super fun/chill/relaxing day in the sun!

 Rowdy Tricking Session

What started off as a nice, relaxing day of training at RMA soon turned into a full out free-for-all wrestling battle!  I sped it up so you don't have to hear our screams of pain, instead now it merely sounds like laughter.  But dont let that fool you!  This was serious, I think Dylan tore some ligaments and maybe even lost a...... testicle!  After that we all decided to be friends again and after some more training (and bad dancing) we all landed a bad side b-twist!  Later I go rock climbing where I failed many times at a really tough V4 and found a cool 5.12- climb whose bottom was just like a fun boulder problem.
